Wendy Lavezzi, M.D. is board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Forensic Pathology. She is an Eta Lambda graduate of Providence College in Rhode Island, an Alpha Omega Alpha medical school graduate of the Albany Medical College, and she completed her residency training at the Albany Medical Center in New York. She continued her training with a fellowship in Forensic Pathology in Chicago, Illinois at the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, and remained in the Chicago office as a Deputy Medical Examiner until she joined the District 5 Medical Examiner’s Office in Leesburg, Florida in 2008, as the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner.
Before attending medical school, Dr. Lavezzi had a 15 year career as a registered nurse, with a specialty in critical care.
She has given lectures and seminars in forensic pathology at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the Chicago Bar Association, and numerous medical residency programs, police groups, and social services groups. She also provides clinical teaching to paramedic students, nursing students, and police trainees.
The mission of the District 5 Medical Examiner's Office is to fulfill the community needs outlined in FL Statutes (Sec 406), and to be of service to families of the deceased and to government agencies in the counties falling under the jurisdiction of Florida District 5 in death investigations.
