Dr. Kyle C. Shaw

Mission Statement

The mission of the District 5 Medical Examiner's Office is to fulfill the community needs outlined in FL Statutes (Sec 406), and to be of service to families of the deceased and to government agencies in the counties falling under the jurisdiction of Florida District 5 in death investigations.

Dr. Shaw was born in Georgia where he enjoyed a boyhood pursuing fishing, hunting and soccer. He attended college in Alabama, but ultimately attended medical school at the University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia from which he graduated in 2003.

During medical school, Dr. Shaw continued his passion for soccer (his position was goalkeeper). He competed in many soccer organizations including competitive Australian University Games. He briefly considered joining semi-professional ball.

Upon graduating medical school, Dr. Shaw undertook a year of clinical internship with the Southeastern Sydney Area Health Service at Prince of Wales Hospital and at Lismore, Australia.

After completing his internship, he turned to the sands of Virginia Beach for a two year pathology residency through Eastern Virginia Medical School. There, he met his wife. Together, they moved to the urban jungles of Baltimore, MD for an additional two years of pathology residency through the University of Maryland. His final year was served as Chief Resident.

Dr. Shaw completed his Fellowship in Forensic Pathology at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland (Baltimore). Most of his academic research was in the discipline of post-mortem imaging (in collaboration with the University of Maryland Department of Radiology).

At the conclusion of his Fellowship, Dr. Shaw accepted the position of Associate Medical Examiner at the District 5 Medical Examiner's Office in Leesburg, FL. He looks forward to serving the people of our district. He also anticipates returning to his boyhood love of fishing in our District's many well-known lakes.
